WASHINGTON — Tired of all waiting and entering a political “in crescendo” with the republicans, President Barack Obama announced Saturday he would bypass a vacationing Senate and appoint 15 people to key administration jobs, using for the first time the political tool known as the “recess appointment”.
The Obama initiative immediately deepened the tensions between the Democratic president and Republicans in the Senate following a long fight over the health care reform. Obama revealed his decision, accusing Republicans of holding up nominees for months.
”I simply cannot allow partisan politics to stand in the way of the basic functioning of government,” Obama said categorically in a statement.
