Venezuela-Russia Relations: Hugo Chavez welcome Vladimir Putin,”Happy Eastern, Vlad!”
"Birds of a feather, flock together".
Caracas, Apr 1. The Cuban news agency Prensa Latina informed today that Venezuela is ready for receiving Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who will visit the country on Friday with the purpose of widening bilateral ties. Putin will visit Caracas next April 2 for signing with President Hugo Chavez agreements in an intergovernmental meeting begun on Wednesday. The meeting between Putin and Chavez will have as purpose the launching of a mixed oil company that will begin to produce daily 50.000 barrels of crude oil this year, but it is hope it could be 450.000 barrels per day.
According to Venezuelan authorities, the visit will also strengthen a wide collaboration that allows Venezuela to guarantee its defence, after US attempts of boycotting arm forces. Before US refusal to selling spare parts and maintenance F-16 combat aircraft to Venezuela, Russia sold Sukhoi aircraft, helicopters, Kalashnikov automatic rifles and munitions.
Chavez highlights often the importance of these agreeements to defend the huge oil riches of the country, that by the end of its certification will probably achieve 316 billion of crude, the biggest world reserve.
