Spain: Socialists and Conservatives with state policy to combat political corruption.

The PSOE and the PP are preparing a pact against political corruption.  The Social-Democrats (PSOE) and the Conservatives (PP) are preparing measures to combat political corruption due to the multiplication of scandals, said Thursday the spanish newspaper El Mundo.

“PP and PSOE are close to reaching a pact against corruption,” writes the newspaper, which quoted officials of the two parties responsible for launching the text.

After reaching such an anti-corruption agreement, both main spanish political parties will then submit it  to Parliament . The Law project will provide a series of measures to combat financial crimes between politicians and government officials. Several measures related to procurement and technical provisions will be a legal framework for  politicians who hold responsibilities in the planning and decission making of  infrastructure projects.

Following the boom recorded in Spain in the last 15 years in construction and infrastructure, there were several scandals concerning personal enrichment of local and regional politicians.

On Tuesday, Jaume Matas, former president and former minister of the Balearic PP, was charged with 12 offenses that could lead to 64 years in prison and was released on bail after paying a record sume of three million euros.
