Russians sell weapons as warm bread,now Peru will buy attack and transport helicopters.
The Peruvian defense minister said Friday his country plans to buy attack and transport helicopters from Russian for deployment with counter-narcotics forces.
Rafael Rey, defense minister for Peru, said there are plans to buy six Mi-17 transport helicopters and two Mi-35 attack helicopters, Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti reports.
Rey told Peruvian newspaper El Commercio the helicopters would be used to combat “drug terrorism” in the Apurimac region and Ene River valley.
Peru declared the area a militarized zone in 2009 in part because of conflict with Sendero Luminoso guerrillas.
