Three weeks before electoral definitions in Colombia, the political kaleidoscope seems to focus on the Antanas Mockus-led Green Party, as parts of the country brace for their first president of Lithuanian origin. The former Bogota mayor and Mathematics teacher has standed out as favorite in consecutive opinion polls after its campaign officialized an alliance with the Citizen Commitment Movement, informed the castrist news agency PRENSA LATINA.
This alliance of government projects with former Medellin Mayor Sergio Fajardo, as a presidential ticket, functioned as a perfect ferment for people preference and the Green Party advanced to the top of the polls.
The progress of the Mockus-Fajardo duet materialized as the government candidacy of Juan Manuel Santos suffered a decline in rating amid denunciations by party rivals and a poor selection of electoral strategists.
According to the latest opinion poll conducted by the National Consultancy Center, the former Defense minister and the Arts graduate will go to a second electoral round in June.
