The Brazilian-Paraguayan border lacks security and it´s a center of drug trafficking. The main actors are the Sao Paulo mafia, the paraguayan guerrilla EPP and its colombian counterpart FARC.
The paraguayan guerrilla EPP real connection is to Colombia’s FARC from whom they may have acquired military training.
Besides the links between Paraguayan and Brazilian bands (with the EPP often acting from Brazilian territory) the most extreme mafia in Sao Paulo, responsible for “bringing down” the Colombian cocaine to the region, may have already taken over that border zone.
Sources such as those quoted by the brazilian newspaper Correio Braziliense, say that the Sao Paulo mafia that penetrated the northeastern districts in Paraguay has links with the FARC through Brazil’s top drug trafficker Luiz Fernando da Costa (Fernandinho Beira-Mar), who, in his flight to Colombia established business links with that narco-guerrilla group.
