Guatemalan Security Forces intercepts submarine with drugs in international waters.

GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemala’s military intercepted on Friday evening a submarine that was carrying at least five tons of cocaine, said a report of news agency AFP Sunday after a interview with the spokesman of the Armed Forces, Colonel Byron Gutierrez.

The military detailed that the action was taken in front of the Pacific coast of Guatemala, and was coordinated with the U.S. anti-narcotics forces, and rely on information from authorities in other Central American countries.

During the operation four Colombians were captured and the authorities recovered part of the load.

Gutierrez stated that the detainees were identified as Marcelino Cossio, 50, Jairo Estupiñan Mayorga, 48,  Enrique Cuero Salazar 31 and Dionisio Pares, 57.

The catch, as well as the submarine and the drug was delivered to the American authorities, due to an cooperation agreement between the two countries.
