Operation Without Borders: Businessmen financed and laundered drugs trafficking in areas of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the authorities, the group of construction businessmen financed and laundered the illegal drugs business in parts of Rio de Janeiro.

The six businessmen accused of involvement with drug trafficking in the north of Rio de Janeiro, were presented on Thursday by the Civil Police in the auditorium of the 5th SD (Central Police). The criminals were caught in Brasilia, Campo Grande (MS) and São Paulo during Operation Without Borders. According to investigations, the group financed the trafficking and used their construction business to launder money from crime. All will be processed in Rio.

Traffickers from two slums would be the connection between contractors and suppliers of drugs in Paraguay and Bolivia. Only in Brasília, a whole building, belonging to a construction company, was searched by agents. Throughout the investigation, were seized documents that would prove the connection of the detainees with the illegal drug trafficking.  One of the defendants will be extradited to Paraguay. Detained in Brasilia, the prisoners arrived to Rio on Wednesday.

The investigations started from the identification of 30 criminals, some of them caught in February. Some of the detainees used rifle with laser sight and therefore earned the nickname the Red Light Bando (referring to the laser beam).

The detainees  had an arrest warrant issued, including the alleged leader of the Manguinhos trafficking area,  Fábio Pinto dos Santos, alias Fabinho Sao Joao, already jailed. The suspect was caught in Balneario Camboriu (SC) last year and nine months later transferred to maximum-security federal prison in Campo Grande (MS), with nine other drug lords of Rio.

Also according to the police with the arrest of Fabio, the traffic is now managed by his manager, known as Daniel Papai. Across the street, in the area of Jacarezinho, Nilsson Roger de Freitas da Silva, alias Roger is the drug lord of that area, with the collaboration of a woman, Sandra Helena Ferreira Gabriel, or Sandra Sapatao.
