Colombia: Top FARC commander Jose Benito Cabrera alias “Fabian Ramirez” was killed.

Fabian Ramirez (FARC Commander)

A top leader of a leftist guerrilla group in Colombia may have been killed during a bombing of a rebel camp, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Saturday.

Several items that are believed to belong to Fabian Ramirez were discovered in the aftermath of the attack, the president said, including weapons, computers and a backpack.

“I say apparently because it is not confirmed,” said Santos, adding: “Most likely, he’s dead.”

Ramirez is a commander in the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known by its Spanish acronym FARC. His given name is Jose Benito Cabrera Cuevas, CNN affiliate Caracol TV reported.

He is believed to have died along with four or five other guerrillas in an early morning raid on a jungle camp near San Vicente del Caguan, located in the southern Caqueta department, the president said.

Authorities are working to identify the dead, Santos added.

Fabian Ramirez (FARC)

Jose Benito Cabrera also known as “Fabian Ramirez”
Date of Birth: 07/06/1963
Place of Birth: Paujil, Caqueta, Colombia

The FARC is a foreign terrorist organization in Colombia that was established in 1964 with a Marxist philosophy and the declared intent to overthrow the democratic Colombian government. The FARC is Latin America’s oldest, largest, most capable and best-equipped insurgency — with perhaps 12,000 fighters and thousands of supporters, mostly in rural areas. In addition to its attacks on Colombian military, political and economic targets, the FARC’s various fronts are deeply involved in narcotics trafficking, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, murder and other criminal activities. Today, the FARC controls the majority of cocaine manufacturing and distribution within Colombia, and is responsible for much of the world’s cocaine supply and what is trafficked to the United States.

JOSE BENITO CABRERA CUEVAS, also known as “Fabian Ramirez,” until 2004, was the FARC 14th Front Commander. He is currently a Member of the Estado Mayor and the Second-in-Command of the FARC Southern Bloc. He is responsible for over 1000 tons of cocaine production and manages all aspects of the drug trade for the Southern Bloc. He ordered the round-up of more than 50 people for violating FARC cocaine policies and the murder of many of them. He participated in setting and implementing the FARC’s cocaine policies directing and controlling (i) the production, manufacture, and distribution of hundreds of tons of cocaine to the United States and the world; (ii) the “taxation” of the drug trade in Colombia to raise funds for the FARC; and, (iii) the murder of hundreds of people who violated or interfered with the FARC’s cocaine policies.

The U.S. Department of State is offering a REWARD OF UP TO $2.5 MILLION for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of JOSE BENITO CABRERA CUEVAS.
