Colombian drug lord and paramilitary criminal is dead.

The Colombian police believe that the criminal Pedro Guerrero, alias “Cuchillo” (“Knife”) , is dead.

Guerrero was a drug lord and also a paramilitary leader. “Cuchillo” was accused of 3,000 murders. He According to the police, he drowned in a creek east of the country, after suffering a cardiac arrest and he was fleeing through the jungle , said an official.

The drug lord was drunk and when he detected the presence of the police helicopters over the house where he celebrated Christmas, he escaped along with two of his bodyguards, while others hold the place using machine guns and shooting at the police.

During his escape, Cuchillo decided to jump into a big water pipe, four feet deep,  but he drowned due the weight of his weapons, the communications radios and his boots. All of that made him to sink and drown.

The United States offered a reward of $ 2.5 million for him.

In dialogue with the private radio Caracol, the police officer said Guerrero  was turned in by people from his environment , “especially a woman”.

On Wednesday, the Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos confirmed the death of Cuchillo during a police operation in the souheast of Colombia  (provinces of Meta and Guaviare). Pedro Guerrero was the head of the paramilitary squad calling themselves as the Popular Anti Communist Revolutionary Army of Colombia (ERPAC) .

Although the operation began at dawn on Saturday, Guerrero’s body was found Tuesday floating in a creek located 200 meters from where the fighting  was concentrated.

Against Cuchillo the authorities weighed arrest warrants for conspiracy, aggravated murder and drug trafficking. He was also investigated by the police due to forced disappearance and forced displacement of peasants.
