Mexico: retired generals continue in public security tasks.

Twenty-nine mexican generals became retired and joined the military base for continuing in public security tasks, even in civil matters.

In the past four years in Mexico, governors, mayors and heads of ministries involved in the issue of security and public safety have further chosen to recruit retired generals and high ranked officers for key positions within the local security.

The mexican government and local civilian authorities belive in involving the retired military in the fight against organized crime, declaring it as “essential”and that so far has worked well.

The Ministry of National Defense yesterday paid tribute to those who left the Army or the Mexican Air Force after 40 years of uninterrupted service.
