California and west coast of Latin America moderately affected by Japan tsunami.

After the Japan Tsunami, in Chile President Pinera announced that the situation is under control and life should continue as normal. However, the chilean authorities are taking preventive measures for the chilean island of Isla de Pascua in the Pacific Ocean and also ordered the preventive evacuation in some areas of the chilean coast.

The President Sebastián Piñera reached the town of Dichato in the Bío Bío Region, to assess the situation of land evacuated by the tsunami alarm enacted after the 9.1 Richter scale earthquake that hit Japan on Friday. Pinera can also visit the city of Constitucion, to monitor the effects left by the waves during the early hours of Saturday.

It was not just Chile. Ecuador, Peru and Colombia also lit the prevention alarm due to the possibility that the waves that hit the Asian nation reached their shores.In North America, twelve hours after the Tsunami in Japan, th force of the waves was felt on the West Coast, specially in Crescent City . Several boats capsized in Santa Cruz harbour as the first tsunami waves hit the California coastline.

The intensity of the waves caused numerous collisions.

Forecasters had predicted tsunami waves as high as 1,5 meters in parts of the northern California coast.

The damage to property along the California coast was worse than expected. An earlier warning from the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre included the Pacific basin, except mainland United States and Canada.

Hawaii, which was hit hours earlier, survived the first wave with relatively little damage.
