Opposition leader Macri warned increasing risk Argentina become authoritarian like Venezuela.

One of these two leaders of the opposition could become the next President of Argentina in November: Eduardo Duhalde (left) and Mauricio Macri (right)

BUENOS AIRES | Determined to overturn the presidential campaign, the mayor of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, has admitted for the first time his willingness to work for an ambitious goal: to unite the argentinian opposition in one presidential candidate and confront Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in the next elections. Meanwhile, from official sources, it has not yet been confirmed the nomination of Cristina fernandez for the next October elections.

“We have to unite the opposition in a broad coalition that, at least, can give us all guarantees of good governance in Argentina. And also one presidential candidate, ” said the pragmatic and liberal politician Mauricio Macri.  He does not hide some concern about the growth of the image of Fernandez, his eventual rival in the October elections, and sees a need for quick reaction of the opposition. Therefore his gesture seeks to approach Eduardo Duhalde, leader of the dissident peronists in Buenos Aires.

Macri is suggesting that in order to unite the opposition, if necessary, he is willing to resign his candidacy.  That means Eduardo Duhalde could be the presidential candidate that could unite the opposition with the support of Macri.

However, Macri aspires to obtain an agreement with other political forces within the opposition like dissident Peronists and members of the UCR ( Civic Radical Union) .

“I go to the negotiating table without impositions. I am convinced I could lead the opposition, but I am willing to be just one more, “he says, and leaves open the possibility of his candidacy for the reelection as major of Buenos Aires, an idea he is rejecting without showing any particular enthusiasm on it.

In a sharp criticism of the current argentinian government, Macri said that “there is a  risk for Argentina to become  an authoritarian country like Venezuela, and this risk is increasing, “and Macri stated that “(the alleged corrupt union leader Hugo) Moyano does what he wants because Cristina Fernandez Kirchner allowes it.

Macri also said that “the next president will not win in October and “there will be runoff. ”

The mayor of the city of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, also spoke about his prosecution for alleged illegal wiretapping saying that he will not leave office and also said  ” I am really concerned about how Cristina Kirchner do exercise power , by attack, discredit and destroy opponents and making use of any instrument that is within a police state, ” Macri said at a news conference at the seat of city government accompanied by his cabinet.
