Gral. Petraeus moving into politics, will be new CIA Director.

General DavidPetraeus

President Barack Obama will nominate General David Petraeus to lead the CIA after the White House decided to nominate Leon Panetta as new Defense Secretary replacing Robert Gates.

Obama is reshaping his national security team and will announce the nominations tomorrow. From a power game point of view, Obama´s moves are wise. Petraeus as hed of the defense dept could have been to powerful, and Panetta is what the DoD and the White House now desperately needs: an experient and intelligent specialist in budget cuts.

Petraeus will be taking over the CIA by the beginning of September, if the U.S. Senate approves his nomination.

Gral Petraeus would retire from the military to take the CIA post, that will be his first political post.

Last year Obama moved Petraeus from head of Central Command to take charge of the war in Afghanistan.  House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said in an appearance on CNBC today that Petraeus, 58, “is a well-respected leader for us, so I would say that’s a real confidence builder.”
