Positive Summit of Latin America and The Caribbean.
Cancun Summit, Mexico is back again in latinamerican geopolitics.
The recent Summit of Latin America and The Caribbean was positive for the cause of The Americas. Why? Many reasons. First, Mexico is back in business concerning leadership in latinamerican politics. Secondly , there is now one latinamerican forum, and it will be easier to negotiate free trade agreement with the U.S. and Canada. Third: Chavez lost face. Fourth: the new Summit will be leaded by democratic governments Fifth: the Summit is not anti U.S., there is no anti yankee plot. The OAS, is a qualitatively a different kind of institution than this new Summit. The OAS is based on treaties, based on broad agreements like the Inter-American Charter, the Inter-American Human Rights Convention, and other treaties. Sixth: The Caribbean region is building a relationship to Latin America, without the presence of the U.S. or Europe. On the other hand, the Castro´s are part of this Summit. Well, nothing is perfect. Is it positive? Is it negative? We must wait and see. One thing is for sure: Raúl has no “drama queen” complex, like his brother Fidel does. Even Raúl helped to restrain the fighting spirits of Uribe and Chavez, during the very “latino” Summit. The negative side of this Summit was the absence of the U.S., which is now a hispanic nation (besides being anglo) . The first minority in the U.S. is the latino community, and make no mistake- today the name of the U.S. President is Barack Hussein Obama, but sooner or later a González or Martínez will be at the Oval Office. No doubt on that. READ MORE HERE
