Bachelet with 62%, new elect President in Chile.
Now elected President in Chile, Michelle Bachelet waves to supporters after casting her vote during presidential elections in Santiago, Chile, Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.
The Socialist candidate Michelle Bachelet pulled off a dramatic return to Chile’s presidency in Sunday’s election and quickly promised radical reform to the country’s education system, higher taxes on businesses and a new constitution. No significant changes in security and defence policy.
Bachelet overwhelmingly won the second round of the election, taking 62 percent of the vote to just 38 percent for Evelyn Matthei, her right-wing rival.
