January 26th , 2016.-  In a UN Security Council session described as  “historic”  by its participants, the 15-member organ presided this month by Uruguay, adopted unanimously last Monday , resolution 2261, initiative that complies the expectations of the Colombian government and the FARC-EP to have international accompaniment in the process that should lead to the end of over half a century of hostilities.

Uruguay´s Foreign Minister, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, highlighted resolution 2261 for its support to the peace process in Colombia.

In his opinion, the end of the conflict would ratify the peaceful vocation of the American continent,  expressed in January, 2014 in Havana, where Celac declared in its 2nd Summit the Latin American and Caribbean region as a zone of peace.

“A continent without conflicts would give us great peacefulness to look into the future as Americans deserves”, said the diplomat who headed the meeting of the Security Council the eve, given the presidency of Uruguay of the 15-member organ this month.
