FBI Seal Global

The FBI could be invading the main social networking sites with fake names. If you incorporate a new “friend” to your social list online, please note that this “friend” could be the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States (FBI), which has entered the various social networks like Facebook, MySpace , LinkedIn and Twitter, reveals a document obtained by the Electroning Frontier Foundation in San Francisco under the Freedom of Information Act.

According to this law, all the U.S. security agencies have been immersed in social networking services, Internet and data registering with fake names to communicate with people and find information allegedly suspicious of illegal activity, according to an internal document of  the Department of Justice. This new development  has initiated a discussion on the potential conflict between privacy rights and the fight against crime.

The Electroning Frontier Foundation says that members of the security forces are connected with social networks and exchange messages with suspects, with friends or relatives of the suspects, reaching such private information and reviewing comments from people, searching pictures and video. To “spy”  into the network represents several advantages for the FBI because it allows, for example, to see if the sayings of a suspect coincides there with what he told police. Twitter messages are particularly informative, because they tend to reveal the place where a person was at a certain time (find location). READ MORE HERE.
