Mexican authorities said Wednesday that a surviving son of late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi and three other relatives planned to enter Mexico under false names and hide at a Pacific coast resort.

The plan to smuggle in al-Saadi Gadhafi allegedly involved two Mexicans, a Canadian and a Danish suspect, all of whom have been arrested according to Interior Secretary Alejandro Poire.

The plot was discovered by Mexican intelligence agents in September as al-Saadi fled Libya shortly after his father’s downfall. He never made it as far as Mexico, ending up in the Western African country of Niger where he currently resides.

The plotters allegedly flew to Mexico, opened bank accounts and bought safe houses in several parts of the country, including one just outside Puerto Vallarta.

“The great economic resources which this criminal organization has, or had, allowed them to contract private flights,” Poire told a news conference.

Poire named Canadian Cynthia Vanier as the group’s ringleader. He said she had been picked up on Nov. 10 and is now under house arrest with three other suspects on suspicion of document falsification, human smuggling and organized crime.

Poire said Vanier “was the direct contact with the Gadhafi family and the leader of the group, and presumably was the person in charge of the finances of the operation.”

The plot also allegedly depended on a Mexican woman living in the United States, who Poire said obtained the falsified Mexican identity documents.

A Danish man acted as “the logistic liaison” for the plan, Poire said. He said the alleged conspirators also traveled to Kosovo “and several Middle Eastern countries.”

The Mexican officials made no mention of Moammar Gadhafi himself being involved in the plan, and Poire did not say which relatives may have planned to accompany the son to Mexico. The elder Gadhafi fell from power in late August and was killed in Libya on Oct. 20.

Poire said that false documents were issued in the names of “Daniel Bejar Hanan, Amira Sayed Nader, Moah Bejar Sayed and Sofia Bejar Sayed.” The Gadhafi name does not appear anywhere in the documents.

One of only two surviving leaders of the Shining Path guerrilla group has announced that his insurgents will halt attacks, and called for a truce to begin peace negotiations with the Peruvian government.

Known by his war name of Comrade Artemio, Jose Flores Hala told journalists gathered in his jungle hideout Friday he “isn’t going to deny” that government forces have won.

Flores, however, was not able to speak for another Shining Path leader known as Comrade Jose, who has not declared a similar cease-fire.

Flores operates in the Central Peruvian Huallaga Valley, a hotbed for coca production, while Comrade Jose is based in the country’s southeast Apurimac-Ene river valley, which also produces a high volume of coca.

Flores said that his approximately 150 guerrillas would not disarm without a “process of frank and real negotiations.” He added however, that “We have no intention of continuing the armed struggle.”

The Shining Path is dramatically smaller than when it controlled large areas of rural Peru in the 1980′s. Government soldiers captured leader Abimael Guzman in 1992 and his replacement Comrade Feliciano in 1999. The remainder of the group has since split into the two small remaining factions.

After weeks of surveillance of the al Qaeda leader in Yemen, armed drones operated by the Central Intelligence Agency CIA took off from a American base in the Arabian Peninsula, crossed into northern Yemen and unleashed a barrage of Hellfire missiles at a car carrying him and other top operatives from Al Qaeda’s branch in Yemen, including another American militant who had run the group’s English-language Internet magazine.

Also a Saudi militant called Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri was killed during the attack. Al-Asiri was believed the architect in the construction of the bombs for the al-Qaida branch’s most notorious attempted attacks — including the underwear-borne explosives intended to a down a U.S. aircraft, and a bomb carried by his own brother intended to assassinate a Saudi prince.

The death of al Asiri would make the Friday drone strikes on a convoy in the central deserts of Yemen one of the most effective single blows in the U.S. campaign to take out al-Qaida’s top figures.

Current U.S. Obama Administration policy is to attack only “high-value individuals” in Pakistan and Afganistan, besides Yemen and Somalia. But the unresolved question is whether the administration can escalate attacks if it wants to against rank-and-file members of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, based in Yemen, and the Somalia-based Shahab. The answer could lay the groundwork for a shift in the fight against terrorists as the original Al Qaeda, operating out of Afghanistan and Pakistan, grows weaker after the death of Bin Laden. That organization has been…READ MORE HERE

NEW DELHI: The Home Minister of India P. Chidambaram said on Friday that Pakistan, which he termed the “global epicentre of terrorism”.

“The vast infrastructure of terrorism in Pakistan has for long flourished as an instrument of state policy,” Chidambaram said in his opening remarks at the first internal security dialogue between India and the US, and added that Pakistan was promoting terror infrastructure as “state policy” against India.

Nowadays, many nations suspect that military and intelligence circles within Pakistán hide and support terrorist international organizations. The fact that U.S. killed Osama bin Laden in a militarized town near the capital Islamabad reassured those suspicions. Now, there is a suspicion that al Qaeda´s Al Zawahiri is also hidden in Pakistan, as well as Mullah Omar -leader of the talibans- and the majority of the talibani leaders.
The home minister Chidambaram was speaking ahead of his talks with his American counterpart, the Director of U.S. Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, who arrived in India on Tuesday.

Calling Pakistan the “global epicentre of terrorism”, Chidambaram said, READ MORE HERE

Osama bin Laden — the founder and longtime leader of the terrorist organization al Qaeda — was killed by U.S. Navy Seals and CIA forces in Obbattabad, a pakistani town near Islamabad.

Bin Laden lived there in a mansion surrounded by high walls, a senior U.S. official told CNN.

Other members of the bin Laden family were also killed during the attack.

In accordance with pakistani authorities, U.S. officials have taken custody of Bin Laden’s body, Obama said. No Americans were harmed in the operation, he added. The body of Osama bin laden was lately buried in the sea.

Obama said the U.S. government believed it had located bin Laden in a compound in Pakistan sometime ago. A team of U.S. forces engaged in a firefight at the compound, killing bin Laden and taking custody of his body.

Officials have long believed bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, was hiding a mountainous region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He was killed in a mansion outside Islamabad in an operation based on actionable US intelligence, CNN reported.

U.S. embassies and diplomatic facilities around the whole world were placed on top alert following Obama´s announcement of bin Laden’s death.

The U.S. State Department send out a new “worldwide caution” for traveller Americans. Some fear al Qaeda supporters, after they realize what happened, may try to retaliate against U.S. citizens or U.S. institutions.

in USA, thousands of people gathered in New York (Ground Zero) and other cities. Hundreds arrived at the White House late Sunday night and chanted, “USA! USA!” They also chanted, “Hey, hey, goodbye!” in reference to the demise of bin Laden. Many spontaneously sang the national anthem.

The decision of the Security Council to impose UN sanctions on Libya was published on Friday (15) in the Official Gazette of Brazil with a decree oif the brazilian government including a ban on arms trade, the freezing of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and persons connected with him, along with support for investigations into international crimes attributed to the leader of Libya. The current president of Brazil, Michel Temer, is signing the document, as the president Rousseff is on an official visit to China and only return to Brazil next Monday (18).

Under the decision, the Brazilian government determines the arms embargo on Libya, suspending sales, purchases and transfers of arms and war materials. The embargo also ban the sale of ammunition, military vehicles and providing technical and financial assistance and training to Libyan military activities.

Penalties still veto the entry into brazilian national territory of 16 people linked to Khadafi – among them, children and employees. The restrictions also determine the freezing of assets and investments in Brazil of all these people. By decree, the Brazilian government is committed to working with the United Nations and support the ongoing investigations in the International Criminal Court (ICC).

On 26 February the Security Council adopted sanctions as punishment to the climate of terror that exists in Libya. For members of UN and NATO Armed forces , Gaddafi is responsible for crimes such as massacres, widespread violence, and corruption and misappropriation of public funds.

In the decree, Brazil defends the necessity of “stopping individuals that are causing attacks on civilians, including by forces under his control [of Gaddafi].” The text also covers the end “immediately” of violence and the adoption of measures that meet the “legitimate grievances” of the population,

The determination of the United Nations also requires that the Libyan authorities to respect human rights and humanitarian concerns.

According to the decree, the fiscal-General of the International Criminal Court should submit every six months a report on the situation in Libya. The ICC investigates accusations of responsibility of Gaddafy for war crimes ranging from mass murder to torture. There are reports that the Libyan leader ordered the burial of people alive during the protests against his government.

In 2001 in Paraguay, the leftist guerrilla group EPP (People´s Army of Paraguay) kidnapped the entrepreneur Maria Edith Bordon de Debernardi. The kidnapping was the first materialized by the EPP, in order to raise funds.

But the guerrillas did not acted alone, since they would have been advised by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The link between the two groups was the Chilean member of the Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front (FPMR), Mauricio Hernández Norambuena, alias “Comandante Ramiro. ”

He is now being held in Brazil accused for the kidnapping of local businessman Washington Olivetto. “Ramiro” also was convicted in Chile for the kidnapping of Cristian Edwards and the murder of Jaime Guzmán.

The background on these alleged links were published this week by the paraguayan daily ABC and are based, according to the newspaper, in documents found on the computer of the late FARC commander Raul Reyes, chief of the Colombian guerrillas killed in Ecuador in March 2008.

Bordon was kidnapped on November 16, 2001 and spent 63 days in the hands of his kidnappers, who received a million dollars for her release.

According to data obtained by the newspaper, the Chilean was among those sent by the Colombian FARC to organize, train and advise the Paraguayan rebels and the kidnapping of Cecilia Cubas, who was captured in September 2004 and whose body was found in February 2005.

The data show that “Ramiro” was in Paraguay in 2001, before the first kidnapping, and then went to Brazil to kidnap Olivetto.

The leaked documents also point to Manuel Olate, whose extradition from Chile to Colombia for its possible links with the FARC is now in the Supreme Court. According to this information, the graphic designer and alleged terrorist Olate had worked with Hernandez Norambuena and would have been in charge of strengthening the links between the FARC and the EPP. This version was not confirmed by the prosecution in Chile.

Arturo Cubillas, who lives in Venezuela, will be judged for his kinks with the colombian terrorist organization FARC and the spanish terrorist ETA.

The Spanish courts on Monday also ordered the prosecution of two former leaders of ETA, Francisco Javier López Peña ‘Thierry’ and Mike Carrera Sarobe ‘Ata’, in the case that investigates the links between the armed Basque separatist band and the FARC.

In the order issued by Judge Eloy Velasco, the judge of the Spanish National Court also processes Jose Lorenzo Ayestarán and Jose Ignacio Olaskoaga for possession of explosives in collaboration with a terrorist organization, as well as Iraitz Guesalaga, Eta responsible for computing and Iurgi Mendinueta for terrorist collaboration.

In its Order, the Judge Velasco issued an international arrest and imprisonment decreed against these seven alleged terrorists in order to request their extradition soon.

It is not the first time that Velasco had requested to Venezuela’s judicial system the extradition of Cubillas, currently residing in the South American country.

The judge said Cubillas maintained at least between 2004 and 2008, constant contact with the leaders of the terrorist organization ETA “with whom he has coordinated and executed tasks, training and education policies, improved weaponry and terrorist techniques. ”

Also, the judge left without effect the imprisonment issued against Remedios Garcia Albert and Omar Arturo Zabala Padilla (alias Lucas Gualdron -delegate for Europe of the FARC) , who will be investigated in the case that has been opened on the national Court No 5 in Spain.

Remedios Garcia Albert , allegedly responsible for the FARC in Spain, was arrested in July 2008 during the police operation ‘Cali’.

However, the High Court in Spain released shortly thereafter (on bail), after accusing her of the crime of collaborating with the terrorists of ETA.

The order issued then said that, at least since 2000, Garcia Albert had a close relationship through emails with Raul Reyes, one of the main leaders of the FARC, who died in 2008 in a military operation at the ecuatorian side of the border with Colombia.

A dual US-Lebanese citizen has been extradited from Paraguay to the United States.

Moussa Ali Hamdan, 38, was charged with supporting Lebanon’s Hezbollah terrorist organization, US officials said Friday.

After being extradited from the paraguayan city of Asuncion, the alleged terrorist Moussa Ali Hamdan appeared in a court in Philadelphia, and he has been charged with providing “material support to Hezbollah“.

Hezbollah is a foreign terrorist organization according to the U.S. government.

Acting in the so called triple Border between Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, and also with alleged connections with the underworld in the city of Ciudad del Este, Hamdan was arrested by Paraguayan authorities last June 15 , on suspicion of supporting terrorism and was subsequently handed over to US custody.

He is accused in the United States on 28 counts including conspiring to supply Hezbollah with fake passports and proceeds from the sale of counterfeit money.

Hamdan also allegedly raised funds for Hezbollah through the sale of products such as electronics and leisure wear, as well as allegedly smuggled weapons into libanon to support Hizbullah. He is also allegedly responsible of crimes committed in Philadelphia, in order to support Hizbullah.

If convicted on all charges, he faces a prison sentence of up to 260 years.

it is of public knowledge that the U.S. is concerned about Hezbollah´s fund raising activities in Paraguay. The U.S. government also suspects the presence in the region of a radicala nd broader Islamist network, specially in the so-called Tri-Border Area of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, the area where Hamdan was detained.
